Privacy Policy
This is a privacy policy placeholder for HVAC-Buddy. It’s written to be honest about what’s implemented in this build (static pages + client-side calculators) and what’s planned (sign-in, persistence, billing).
HVAC-Buddy aims to be “field-first” and minimize personally identifiable information (PII) wherever possible.
- You can use calculators anonymously and copy summaries without creating an account.
- Some pages may store preferences locally in your browser (for example, unit preferences).
- When sign-in and saving are enabled, HVAC-Buddy will store calculation history for signed-in users.
- Billing/subscriptions (if enabled) will be handled via a third-party billing provider.
- HVAC-Buddy does not want you to enter sensitive customer data; job/customer fields (if added) should be optional and minimal.
“HVAC-Buddy” (the “Service”, “we”, “us”) provides a website and calculators for HVAC technicians and students.
Company details (legal entity name and address) should be inserted here before production launch.
2.1 Data you provide
Depending on features you use, you may provide:
- Calculator inputs and computed results (e.g. superheat, subcooling, airflow, duct size).
- Optional notes you type into calculators (avoid customer PII).
- When sign-in is enabled: account information provided through the authentication provider (e.g., email).
2.2 Data collected automatically
Like most websites, the Service may collect basic technical data such as:
- IP address (typically in server logs)
- Browser type and device information
- Pages visited and approximate timestamps
- Performance/diagnostic information (to keep the site reliable)
2.3 Local storage (device)
Some pages may store non-sensitive preferences in your browser using local storage (e.g., unit settings). You can clear these via your browser settings (or via in-app “clear local data” controls, if available).
We use data to:
- Provide the calculators and user experience
- Improve reliability and performance
- Provide support when you contact us
- When enabled: save and display your calculation history and account settings
- When enabled: manage subscriptions and entitlements (tiers)
HVAC-Buddy may use third-party service providers to deliver core functionality. Based on the v1 product plan, examples may include:
| Vendor | Role | When used |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Authentication provider | When sign-in is enabled |
| Convex | Database / persistence | When saving is enabled |
| Lemon Squeezy | Billing / subscriptions | When paid tiers are enabled |
This list is illustrative and must be updated to reflect actual production vendors (including hosting and analytics).
We may also share information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to prevent fraud and abuse.
We retain data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy.
- Anonymous calculator use: results are typically not stored server-side unless explicitly saved in a future feature.
- Signed-in accounts (when enabled): saved calculations may be retained until you delete them or close your account (policy to be defined in the final version).
- Logs and operational metrics may have limited retention for security and debugging.
You can:
- Use calculators without an account (anonymous mode).
- Copy summaries without saving data to us.
- Clear local preferences in your browser.
- When enabled: delete saved calculations and manage your account settings.
We take reasonable steps to protect data. No system can be guaranteed 100% secure; if we become aware of a significant security incident affecting personal data, we will follow applicable laws and best practices for notification and remediation.
Implementation note: security measures should match actual architecture (edge protections, auth, authorization, backups). This placeholder should be updated during production rollout.

We may update this privacy policy as the product evolves (for example, when sign-in, saving, billing, or analytics are introduced). When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
